Organize and manage files

- Convert your files to STEP or STL format for export.
- When dealing with multiple parts for printing, avoid consolidating them into a single STEP or STL file; instead, ensure they are separated into individual files.
- When submitting several files for printing, compile them into a zip folder.
- Following that, assign a new name to your folder or file as… (ProjectName_Material_Color_Quantity)
3D design criteria
- Merge your objects before STL export to prevent errors.
- The model must have a minimum thickness of 1.2mm; anything less may be too fragile for our printing.

SketchUp

Frequently asked
What's the best file format for 3D printing?
STL is the safest bet — every 3D printer supports it. STEP is better if you want us to refine the design before printing (we can edit STEP, not STL). For colour-printed pieces, send 3MF or OBJ with a texture. Avoid raw CAD formats from specialty software (e.g., Rhino .3dm) unless you've confirmed we can open them.
How do I send big 3D files?
Files under 25MB go fine through email. Larger files (assemblies, scan data) are easier via Google Drive, Dropbox, or WeTransfer link. Our instant-quote tool accepts up to 200MB direct upload. For files larger than that, send a download link and we'll pull from there.
What should I check before sending my STL?
Five things: (1) the model is watertight (no holes in the mesh), (2) units are correct (millimeters, not inches — STL has no unit info), (3) walls are at least 0.8mm thick for FDM, (4) the file is the actual final geometry, not a low-res preview, and (5) any text or fine detail is at least 1mm tall. We'll flag issues during quoting if we spot them.
