MJF 3D printing (Multi Jet Fusion) is the nylon powder process we use when a part has to work, not just look good. A printhead lays a fusing agent on each layer of nylon powder and heat fuses it into a solid part, while the loose powder around it holds it up. No supports means no support marks, and hinges, clips, grilles and interlocking parts print in one shot, in tough black PA12.

When to choose MJF: parts that take real use

Pick MJF, or its close cousin SLS, over filament (FDM) or resin (SLA) printing when strength and function matter more than a glossy surface:

  • Functional parts: brackets, jigs, clips, snap fits and enclosures that get handled, fitted and used.
  • Fine, open geometry: grilles, lattices and thin walls that would trap supports on other processes. The honeycomb grille on the Arc computer case printed in one piece.
  • Batches: parts nest in 3D across the build, so a run of matching parts prints together.

MJF or SLS: choose on price and preference

In practice the two nylon powder processes are close. MJF comes out a little smoother than SLS nylon, but not by much, and both are tough, support-free nylon. SLS gives you more colours and grades (PA12 in grey, black or white, a 30% glass fibre grade and a PA11-like grade). MJF is black PA12 or PA12 glass bead. If you have no preference, upload the file and compare the two prices.

Colours and finishes: black as printed, other colours on request

Every MJF part comes out black with an even, matte surface. For another colour we can dye the part on request, or prime it and spray paint it in the colour you need through our colour application service.

Not sure MJF fits: send the file and we recommend a process

MJF is one of the processes in our industrial 3D printing. Need fine detail and a smooth, paintable surface instead? That is SLA resin. Need metal strength or heat resistance? That is metal 3D printing. Send the file and what the part has to do, and we recommend the process rather than quote blindly.

What's included
  • PA12 nylon, or stiffer PA12 glass bead
  • No support structures, so full design freedom
  • Moving and interlocking parts printed pre-assembled
  • Up to 670 x 360 x 550 mm in one piece, bigger parts split and joined
  • Black as printed, other colours by dyeing on request
  • Instant quote for one part or a batch
How we make it
  1. Upload & quote

Send an STL, STEP, OBJ or 3MF through the instant quote tool and get a price the same day, no email gate.

  2. Nest the build

Parts pack in 3D across the powder bed with no supports needed, so complex and interlocking geometry prints in one shot.

  3. Print & cool

A printhead lays a fusing agent on each layer of nylon powder and heat fuses it, then the build cools before the parts come out.

  4. Clean & finish

Loose powder is blasted off. Parts leave black, or dyed, or primed and painted, depending on what you need.

  5. QC & deliver

Dimensional and fit check before packing. Collect from Bendemeer or have it couriered islandwide.

Frequently asked

What is MJF 3D printing?

MJF (Multi Jet Fusion) is a nylon powder 3D printing process: a printhead lays a fusing agent on each thin layer of powder, and heat fuses those areas into a solid part. The loose powder around the part holds it up while it prints, so no support structures are needed. The result is a tough, matte black nylon part.

Should I choose MJF or SLS?

MJF and SLS are close in practice, so choose on price and preference. MJF comes out a little smoother than selective laser sintering (SLS), but not by much, and both print tough nylon with no supports. SLS gives you more choice: PA12 in grey, black or white, a 30% glass fibre grade and a PA11-like grade, and it usually comes back sooner. See our SLS nylon printing page, or send the file and we suggest one.

What materials and colours does MJF come in?

We print MJF in PA12 nylon and PA12 glass bead, both in black. PA12 is the all-round choice for strong, functional parts. PA12 glass bead is stiffer, for parts that must hold their shape under load. Other colours are possible by dyeing on request, or the part can be primed and spray painted.

How big can an MJF part be?

A single MJF part can be up to 670 x 360 x 550 mm. Anything bigger is printed in sections and joined, with the joints designed in so the pieces line up. Tell us the size when you send the file and we confirm how it splits.

How long does MJF printing take?

MJF takes about 12 to 15 working days for a normal-size part (about 10 to 15 cm across), as a rough guide. Bigger parts and large batches take longer, so check with us when you send the file. Painting or dyeing adds time on top.

How do I get a price for MJF parts?

Upload an STL, STEP, OBJ or 3MF file to our instant quote tool for a price, with no email needed. The price mostly follows how much nylon the part uses and how many you need, and a batch costs less per part than a single piece.
