What we brought

  1. What we can do

    Threads that work

The battery holder screws into the end of the hilt and unscrews again by hand.

  2. How we look after you

    Printed straight from the plate

The silver hilt and green blade come off the printer in their own colours, with no paint.

  3. What you get

    Made to be held

The ribbed silver grip fills the hand, and the long green blade reads as a lightsaber across a room.

The brief

Use
Cosplay prop and display piece
Hilt
Opens by hand to reach the battery holder

At Additive Inn, our 3D printing studio in Singapore, we made a fan-made lightsaber prop. It needed a hilt that holds a battery, opens by hand, and a blade long enough to read as a lightsaber.

Production

Step 2 of 4

The hilt and its threaded battery holder were 3D printed by FDM in silver, and the blade as a long tube in green.

The green blade, fresh off the printer.

Build and assembly

Step 3 of 4

The battery holder screws into the end of the hilt. We tested it by hand, uncapping it and screwing it back in.

The final build

Step 4 of 4

The finished lightsaber holds the long green blade in the ribbed silver hilt, ready to carry or hang on the wall.

Held up in a dark room.
