    Artwork cut to its outline

    The fairy, her wings, the crowned staff and three furry friends are printed in full colour on one clear acrylic panel, cut around their outline so it stands free.

  2. How we look after you

    Light from inside the base

    An LED panel inside the 3D printed base lights the acrylic from below and glows through the pink tinted nameplate on the front.

  3. What you get

    No cable needed on display

    A built-in rechargeable battery runs the lights, charged through a USB-C port hidden at the back of the base.

At Additive Inn, our 3D printing studio in Singapore, we made a lit birthday trophy for a private client. He came to our office with his own brief: Fuyuka as a fairy, with pink wings and a crowned staff, three furry friends around her and a heart reading Happy Birthday Fuyuka, above a glowing nameplate. We agreed the look together, then planned it as a printed acrylic panel standing in a lit base.

Design and prototyping

Step 2 of 5

We drew the artwork for the acrylic, then designed the base around the lights: a black stepped round base with a slot for the acrylic, an N-shaped LED panel inside, and a pink tinted front panel that lights from within to show ふゆか under a crown. The figure panel is 200 mm tall on a 55 mm base, 255 mm in all. The charging port sits at the back, out of view, and bolts hold the acrylic in place.

Production

Step 3 of 5

The acrylic was cut to the outline of the artwork and UV printed in full colour, and the nameplate panels printed to fit the front of the base. The base was 3D printed in black.

Lighting the base

Step 4 of 5

Inside the base went the LED panel, a rechargeable battery and a USB-C charging port, so the trophy lights up without a cable on display. The light glows up through the edge of the acrylic and through the nameplate on the front.
