What we brought

  1. What we can do

    Pen mock-ups modelled from references

We modelled the pen in two sizes, 139 mm and 156 mm long, from the client's references, and printed them in white SLA resin.

  2. How we look after you

Magnets keep every pen in its place

A magnet set into the end of each pen holds it to a metal plate on its own step of the box, so the five pens stand in order.

  3. What you get

Pens, box and back plate as one set

Each of the 300 display sets had five pens with stickers, a printed box with magnetic plates and a UV printed acrylic back plate.

The brief

Step 1 of 5

Pens
Mock-ups, five to a set, each with a sticker
Material
White ABS-like SLA resin
Second order
300 sets with a printed box and an acrylic back plate

At Additive Inn, our 3D printing studio in Singapore, we made injection pen mock-ups and counter displays for Novo Nordisk. The first order was for mock-ups of an injection pen, printed in SLA with stickers and set in a custom box with magnets. A second order followed for 300 sets of pens with the box and an acrylic back plate with graphics.

Step 2 of 5

We modelled the pens and the box first, then designed the back plate for the second order. Each round came as a deck of renders with the sizes marked.

  1. Pen set, Revision 0

Two pen mock-ups, 139 mm and 156 mm long, on a stepped box with one pen on each of its five steps. A magnet in the end of each pen holds it to a metal plate in the step.

  2. Counter display, Revision 0

A back plate of 5 mm acrylic bent into shape, 265 mm tall on a base 205 by 113 mm, with the colour and type UV printed on it. The box of pens sits on its base.

  3. Counter display, Revision 1

A new shape for the back plate in 5 mm clear acrylic, UV printed, with parts left clear, including a band about 80 mm deep at the base. The title plaque is 203.79 mm wide, and text that was missing was added back from the client's artwork file.

Step 3 of 5

We printed the pen mock-ups in white ABS-like SLA resin and put a sticker on each one. The back plates are 5 mm acrylic with the colour and type UV printed on them.

How a set goes together

Step 4 of 5

Each pen has a magnet set into its end, and each step of the box has a metal plate, so every pen holds to its own step. In the display sets, the box sits in front of the acrylic back plate.

The final build

Step 5 of 5

Novo Nordisk received the pen sets in their custom boxes, then 300 counter display sets. Each display set has five SLA printed pen mock-ups with stickers, a printed box with magnetic plates and a UV printed acrylic back plate.

RenderRender: five pens, one on each step.
