Problem to Product

This is the course where everything comes together. You bring a real problem: the clip that snapped, the part that doesn’t exist, the thing on your desk that needs a holder. You leave with the part that fixes it, designed by you.

It’s three hours of design work with a trainer beside you: measure, sketch the fix, model it in CAD, check it will print, and print it. The same way our studio takes a client’s problem to a finished part.

How the session flows

  1. define Pin down the problem What the part has to do, what it fits onto, and what would make it fail.
  2. measure Measure and sketch Take the measurements that matter with calipers, and sketch the fix on paper first.
  3. cad Design the fix Model it in Onshape with a trainer beside you, using the fits and print rules from the earlier courses.
  4. print Slice, print, try it Orient and slice it for strength, print it, and test it against the real thing.
  5. take home The part that fixes your problem

You leave with a working part you designed for a problem of your own, and the confidence to do it again on your own.

Frequently asked

What kind of problem can I bring?

Something small enough to print in a few hours: a broken clip, a missing knob, a bracket that doesn't exist, a cable tidy, a holder for something on your desk. If you're not sure, send us a photo on WhatsApp before you book.

Do I need to know CAD?

Yes, the basics, in Onshape (it runs in your browser). CAD Fundamentals covers what you need, and Design for 3D Printing helps a lot. A trainer works beside you the whole time.

What do I need to bring?

Your laptop, charger and mouse, the broken or missing thing (or clear photos and measurements of where it goes), and a ruler or calipers if you have them.

Will my part be finished on the day?

Most are. If yours needs longer than the time left, we print it after: up to about an hour of printing in PLA is included, and it's ready to collect within 3 working days. We WhatsApp you when it's ready: collect it free at the studio, or we courier it for S$15. We keep it for 30 days. Anything longer, bigger or in another material, we quote before we print.

Can I use SkillsFuture credit?

No. This course isn't listed on SkillsFuture. It's $150 a person before GST, on a date you pick and book online.

Is it part of a longer course?

Yes. It's the last of six bite-size courses, and all six together are the two-day Advanced 3D Printing Masterclass, $690 a person.
