What we brought

  1. What we can do

From drawings to a 3D model

The artist sent drawings and a turntable video of her character. We turned them into a 3D model with an AI-assisted process.

  2. How we look after you

    Changed where it mattered

Raised teeth instead of cut-in lines, smooth palms for painted strokes, and a base built in so the big-headed figure sits steady.

  3. What you get

    Flat colour, painted by hand

Black body, white face and gloves, a blue grin, green and orange eyes, and a star on each palm, airbrushed over primer.

At Additive Inn, our 3D printing studio in Singapore, we made a figure of an artist's own cartoon character: a black, big-headed creature with a wide grin, seated with both hands raised. She sent her drawings and a turntable video of the character and wanted it as a painted display piece.

Design and prototyping

Step 2 of 5 · 23/07/2026

We turned her drawings into a 3D model with an AI-assisted process, then showed it at two sizes. She chose the larger one, 200 mm across the raised hands, where the teeth and fingers keep their detail in resin.

Three changes went into the model before printing. The teeth, first cut into the surface, were rebuilt to stand out from the mouth, keeping their pointed shape. The engraved lines on the palms were taken off, to come back as painted strokes. And because most of the weight sits in the head and the raised arms, we built a flat base into the model so the figure sits steady on its own. She approved the model on the third day.

The 3D model at 200 mm with the teeth raised, the palm lines taken off and a flat base added. Approved on 23/07/2026.

Production

Step 3 of 5 · 27/07/2026

The figure and its base were printed in resin as one piece, then sanded and primed, so the grin, the teeth and every finger showed clean before paint.

Printed and primed, the base built in.

Painting by hand

Step 4 of 5

A first coat of white went on and cured, then the colour: a black body and arms, a white face and white gloves, a blue grin and its pointed teeth, one green eye and one orange, and a pink and a yellow star on the palms, all in flat colour to match her drawings.

The final build

Step 5 of 5 · 07/08/2026

The finished figure sits with its hands up and its grin wide, steady on its base. It was packed in acid-free paper to keep the paint safe and collected from our studio.

Hands up, front on.
