What we brought
What we can do
Four revisions to a case that works
We changed the skin, the lid and the hinge over four revisions until the case opened cleanly and closed flush.
How we look after you
Designed to be made
Walls, clearances and the hinge seat were checked for manufacture, then proved with test prints in our studio.
What you get
You see every option before it is made
Each revision came as renders, an exploded view and a cross-section, so the client could choose before any tooling.

The brief
Step 1 of 5
- Shape
- Round, 86.2 mm across
- Our scope
- Design for manufacture, tolerance and clearance checks, test prints
At Additive Inn, our 3D printing studio in Singapore, we designed a compact powder case for a beauty brand. The brief was a round compact that feels soft in the hand, opens on a hinge and holds a pressed powder pan, designed so a factory could make it.
Four revisions
Step 2 of 5
We took the case through four revisions. Each one went to the client as renders, an exploded view and a cross-section, with every part named.
-
Revision 0
A purple textured TPU skin over a hard case, a steel plate clamped in by the case, and a self-closing hinge.

Test prints
Step 3 of 5
We printed test parts of the shells and the hinge seat in our studio, so the design could be checked in the hand and not only on screen.
Fit and clearance check
Step 4 of 5
We put the test parts together to check the hinge, the clearances between the shells and how the lid closes, then adjusted the files before handing them over.
The final build
Step 5 of 5
The client received the 3D files of the final design, ready for manufacture: a soft TPU skin over an electroplated shell that opens on a hidden barrel hinge.
