Text to 3D (AI)

Everyone has an idea for something they’d like to hold in their hand. Until now you needed to learn 3D modelling to make it. In this two-hour course you type it out in plain words, and AI does the drawing and the first 3D model for you.

Then comes the part the AI can’t do: you check the model, fix what wouldn’t print, slice it and send it to a printer. It’s the same workflow our studio uses to turn photos into figurines, taught by the people who run it every day.

How the session flows

  1. prompt Describe it in words Learn how to write a prompt that gives AI a clear, printable picture, or start from a photo of your own.
  2. ai From picture to 3D model Turn your best image into a 3D model and see what the AI got right, and what it got wrong.
  3. fix Make it printable Check the model, close the gaps, give it a flat base and the right size, so it prints first time.
  4. print Slice and print Slice your model, up to 6 cm tall, and send it to the printers with everyone else's. It's done before you leave.
  5. take home The thing you imagined, printed

You leave with your own model, printed, and a workflow you can use again for gifts, game pieces, mascots and prototypes.

Frequently asked

Do I need to know 3D modelling?

No. That's the point of this course: you describe what you want in words (or start from a photo), and AI does the drawing and the first 3D model. We show you how to check and fix the model so it actually prints.

What will I take home?

The model you made, 3D printed in class, up to 6 cm tall: everyone's goes on shared print plates in the last part of the session, so it's done before you leave. Want it bigger? We quote it first, then print it after, ready to collect within 3 working days. We WhatsApp you when it's ready: collect it free at the studio, or we courier it for S$15. We keep it for 30 days.

Which AI tools do you use?

The same AI image and image-to-3D tools our studio uses to make Mini Me figurines from photos every day. You can use ours, so you don't need an account or a subscription, or bring your own account if you already use an AI tool you like.

Can I use SkillsFuture credit?

No. This course isn't listed on SkillsFuture. It's $120 a person before GST, on a date you pick and book online.

Is it part of a longer course?

Yes. It's the second of six bite-size courses, and all six together are the two-day Advanced 3D Printing Masterclass, $690 a person.
