At Additive Inn, our 3D printing studio in Singapore, we make character figurines to order. This page brings together five separate figures, each needing fine detail at a small size.

Production

Step 2 of 4

Urd, Yura and the workman were printed in grey resin, which holds every feather in Urd's wings, the jagged crystals of Yura's base, and the collar, vest edges and fingers of the workman. His hard hat was printed as a separate part. Hidan was printed from the client's file, and Mosquito Man's figure, staff, banner and round base were 3D printed with the ribbed cables, the ringed staff and the banner's panels kept sharp enough to pick out in paint.

Priming, painting and packing

Step 3 of 4

Hidan and Mosquito Man were primed, then painted by hand. Hidan has a black cloak with a red lining, red clouds outlined in white, grey swept-back hair and red scythe blades. Mosquito Man's silver armour fades into teal, purple and blue, with a lime green staff head and a textured red earth base. The workman's hard hat sits on without glue, and Urd was wrapped in film and boxed with padding so her thin staff and wings travel safely.

The final build

Step 4 of 4

Five finished figures, each on its own base or feet. Urd stands tall with her wings behind her and the staff held out to one side. The rest are shown below, one by one.

Urd, finished on 02/08/2022.

Urd

Urd from Ah! My Goddess in grey resin, finished on 02/08/2022: feathered wings, a bird on one hand, a spiked ring staff and a gown falling to her feet.

Yura

A small Yura figurine, finished on 26/08/2022 and left in plain grey resin with no paint, so the print itself shows: the sword hilt, the hair, the buckles and the thin edges of the cape. It is small enough for a desk.

Yura, sword raised overhead.
Plain grey resin, no paint.

Hidan

Hidan from Naruto Shippuden for a private client, who sent the 3D file on 07/09/2022 and asked us to print it and paint it. Finished on 14/11/2022: Hidan in his cloud-patterned cloak, one hand raised, with the triple-bladed scythe resting beside him on the base.

Hidan, finished on his base.
The triple-bladed scythe.

Workman

A standing workman in plain grey resin: hard hat, collared shirt and open vest, arms at his sides. The hard hat lifts off and goes back on. We checked the figure over by hand before it went out.

The workman, full length.

Mosquito Man

A tabletop miniature known in our studio as Mosquito Man: a robed, robot-like figure leaning on a tall staff beside a purple and silver banner, on a red earth base with a black rim, ready for the table or the shelf.
