The build
How we built it
4 steps, from the brief to the finished piece. Pick a step to jump to it.
The brief
Step 1 of 4
At Additive Inn, our 3D printing studio in Singapore, we built a comparison scale model for events agency Knoxx: a residential district beside an industrial one. The timeline was tight, so we went straight from the go-ahead to sourcing and printing, without a digital mock-up.
Fabrication
Step 2 of 4
Every building, chimney and vehicle was 3D printed in white, from factory sheds with their window frames to tanker trucks and trailers. Our designer directed the art as the pieces came off the printers.
Build & assembly
Step 3 of 4
The buildings were set out on black roads and grey pavements, then the greenery went on: grassed roof gardens, lawns and trees. Smoke went on the chimneys and the vehicles took their places, with progress sent to the client for feedback.
The final build
Step 4 of 4
The finished model sets the two districts side by side: towers with roof gardens and a crane at work on one side, factories, smoking chimneys and streets full of trucks on the other.
The details
Up close: planted roof gardens, chimney smoke, a dig site with its diggers, a mobile crane behind a fence and a traffic light on the corner.
