What we brought

  1. Facade detail

Every column and window bay stands out

The facade panels carry their columns, balustrades and window frames, printed in relief.

  2. Colour in the print

The colour is in the plastic itself

The roof prints in orange and the building in cream, so neither needs painting.

  3. Built in parts

Printed in parts for a cleaner finish

Walls, facade panels, cornice, roof and base were each printed on their own, then fitted together.

The build

How we built it

The brief

Step 1 of 4

At Additive Inn, our 3D printing studio in Singapore, we 3D printed a scale model of the Fullerton Hotel. It needed the long colonnaded facade, the tiled roof and the stepped base, with the detail crisp enough to read at desk scale.

Fabrication

Step 2 of 4

We printed the model as separate parts: a base tray, the walls, the facade panels, a cornice strip and the roof. The building came off the printer in cream and the roof in orange, so the colours are in the plastic.

Every part, printed and ready to assemble.

Build and assembly

Step 3 of 4

The walls, facade panels and cornice fit together on the base tray, and the orange roof sits on top to close the model.

The final build

Step 4 of 4

The finished model reads as the building at a glance: columns and window bays along the front, a tiled roof above and the entrance opening in the base.

The full length of the facade.
