We turned Shimadzu's plaque artwork into a layered piece: lettering cut through the gold, with white showing behind.

Shimadzu saw the trophy in 3D the day after sending its artwork, and approved fabrication the next morning.

The brief
Step 1 of 5
At Additive Inn, our 3D printing studio in Singapore, we made an anniversary trophy for Shimadzu (Asia Pacific), marking its partnership with Toshvin from 1970 to 2020. Shimadzu sent its plaque design as artwork and asked to review a digital mock-up before we made anything.
Design and mock-up
Step 2 of 5
We built the trophy as a 3D model from the artwork and sent Shimadzu the mock-up the next day. Shimadzu approved it on 23/09/2022, asking for the stand in the same gold as the plaque.
Production
Step 3 of 5
We made the trophy as separate parts: the gold coin with its lettering cut through, a white backing that shows through the cuts, the royal-blue banner with raised white lettering, and two curved legs.
Build and assembly
Step 4 of 5
We finished the coin and both legs in the same metallic gold, set the banner across the face and stood the coin in its two legs, so it displays on its own.
The final build
Step 5 of 5
The finished trophy: a gold coin with "50" and "Years of Partnership" cut out in white, Toshvin and Shimadzu raised on the banner, and 1970 to 2020 below.
