What we brought
What we can do
From a grain to a case
We drew the grain's outer form first, then split it along its length into a lid and a base.
How we look after you
Designed for manufacture
The wall, the stepped lip between the halves and the flat underneath were all drawn with manufacture in mind.
What you get
Every change side by side
The last round set the new shape beside the one before, in section and closed, so the client could see what changed.

The brief
Step 1 of 3
- Shape
- A long, rounded grain of rice
- Our scope
- 3D design for manufacture, two rounds of changes
At Additive Inn, our 3D printing studio in Singapore, we designed a case shaped like a grain of rice for a private client. The brief was a 3D design for manufacture, with two rounds of changes included.
Three revisions
Step 2 of 3
We took the case through three revisions. Each one went to the client as renders, and from the second round in section too, so the wall and the joint between the halves could be checked.

Revision 0
The outer form: a long, rounded grain, shown from five angles.

-
Revision 1
The grain split along its length into a lid and a base. The two meet on a stepped lip, and the base is flattened underneath so it sits flat.

Revision 2
Fuller, rounder ends and a longer flat base, set under Revision 1 in section and closed.

The final build
Step 3 of 3
The client received the 3D files of the final design: a grain-shaped case in two halves that meet on a stepped lip, with a flat base to sit on.
