Finished by hand in our spray booth
Every panel was primed, then sprayed gold in light coats and touched up by hand before it dried.

The build
How we built it
4 steps, from the brief to the finished piece. Pick a step to jump to it.
The brief
Step 1 of 4
At Additive Inn, our 3D printing studio in Singapore, we made the gold lattice panels for a Malaysia Airlines art installation. Malaysia Airlines needed a set of decorative screens, each cut in its own geometric pattern and all finished in the same gold.
Cutting the panels
Step 2 of 4
We laser cut each panel from wood sheet, one pattern per panel: flowing petals, six-point stars, interlocking squares, crosses and diagonal stripes, with every opening cut clean through.
Spray finishing
Step 3 of 4
In our spray booth, each panel was primed, then sprayed gold in light, even coats, working round the panel so the colour reached every cut edge. We then checked each one and touched up thin spots by hand.
The final build
Step 4 of 4
The finished panels went out as one set, ready for the installation.
Finish close-ups
These close-ups show the gold on two of the patterns.
