What we brought

  1. What we can do

    Sharp facets in metallic paint

We printed the faceted rhino in parts that peg together, sanded and primed them, then sprayed them gold or silver.

  2. How we look after you

We build on the artwork you already have

We shortened the brigade's rhino, sharpened its eyes and designed a base and case around their backdrop art.

  3. What you get

Ready to present, name plate and all

Each rhino stands in a clear acrylic case on a black base, its recipient named on a metal plate.

The brief

Rhino 3D model and backdrop art

At Additive Inn, our 3D printing studio in Singapore, we made two rhino trophies for the 5th Singapore Infantry Brigade, one gold and one silver, to thank two of its leaders.

Concept

Step 2 of 6

The brigade sent its low-poly rhino and backdrop art, and asked for a shorter torso, a base for the rhino, a clear case and a name plate at the front.

Design and prototyping

Step 3 of 6

We shortened the rhino in CAD, sharpened its eyes and split it into parts that peg together. Then we designed the base from scratch: a raised edge to hold the case and a recess at the front for the metal plate.

Production

Step 4 of 6

We 3D printed the rhino in parts that peg together, along with the base, and sanded and primed every piece ready for paint.

Build and assembly

Step 5 of 6

We sprayed one rhino gold and one silver, pegged each onto its base and set the metal plate into the recess. The backdrop went on the back panel of the acrylic case, which closes over the rhino.

The final build

Step 6 of 6

Both trophies were ready for the brigade's ceremonies: a gold rhino and a silver one standing out from the backdrop in clear cases, each recipient named on the plate.
