A compact white casing for a GPS tracker, rebuilt from the original by reverse engineering and produced as an injection-moulded part. The client needed the enclosure recreated as a clean, production-ready 3D model, so we worked from the physical part, measured and modelled every feature, and delivered a file ready for tooling. Even the fine cross-hatch surface texture and the small debossed detailing were captured, so the moulded casing matches the original closely.
Reverse engineering the enclosure
An enclosure like this is more than a box. It has a soft-cornered shape, a recessed window, a micro-textured surface and precise openings for the ports, and all of it has to be right for the parts inside to fit and the halves to close. We measured the original closely and rebuilt it as an editable CAD model, matching the outer form, the wall thickness and the small features, so the new casing is dimensionally faithful to the part it replaces.
Made for moulding
Because the casing was always going to be injection moulded, the model was built with production in mind: even walls, proper draft on the faces, and the surface texture and debossed detailing carried through so they come straight out of the tool. The result is a clean white enclosure that looks and fits like the original, produced by the same process it was designed for. It is a straightforward example of using reverse engineering to take a physical part back to a manufacturable 3D model.
