- A die-cut foam insert to hold the piece
At Additive Inn, our 3D printing studio in Singapore, we designed and finished a jewellery box for Confetti by Mui. The quote set out a moon-shaped box that closes on magnets, with a custom foam insert.
Design and prototyping
Step 2 of 5
We modelled the moon as two halves meeting at the middle, with magnet posts round the rim, and drew the foam insert to match: 92 mm across, 20 mm deep, layered, notched round the posts and cut with pockets for the piece.
Production
Step 3 of 5
The two halves were printed in resin with the crater relief built into the surface, then washed and cured. Each half carries a ring of raised posts round its rim to take the magnets.
Build and assembly
Step 4 of 5
We sanded, filled and primed both halves, then painted them in greys so the craters read like the moon. The foam was cut in layers, glued together and fitted into each half around the magnet posts.
The final build
Step 5 of 5
Confetti by Mui got a closed grey moon that pulls apart on its magnets into two foam-lined halves, with their logo on the foam and the piece held in its pocket.
