Understanding our 3D Design Process
We understand that every product starts with an idea. Whether it’s a new product you want to create or a modification to an existing design, our team is here to help you bring your ideas to life. We have a 3D design process that ensures your ideas are transformed into high-quality, functional products.
-
Conceptualization
The first step in our 3D design process is conceptualization. This is where we work with you to understand your idea, your target audience, and your goals. We use this information to create a concept design that captures the essence of your idea.
During this stage, we’ll ask you a lot of questions to make sure we understand your vision. We’ll also provide you with feedback on your design to ensure it meets your needs and is feasible to manufacture.
-
Sketching
Once we have a good understanding of your idea, we’ll move on to sketching. This is where we start to refine the concept design into something more tangible. We’ll create several sketches that explore different aspects of the design, including shape, size, and features.
At this stage, we’ll also consider any functional requirements of the product, such as durability, ease of use, and ergonomics. We’ll work with you to ensure the sketches meet your needs and are on track to meet your goals.
-
3D Modeling
With the sketches approved, we’ll move on to 3D modeling. This is where we create a detailed, digital version of your design using specialized 3D modeling software. This allows us to create a highly accurate and detailed model that can be used for testing and validation.
During this stage, we’ll also consider manufacturing requirements, such as material selection and assembly. We’ll work with you to ensure the 3D model meets your needs and can be manufactured within your budget and timeline.
-
Prototyping
Once the 3D model is complete, we’ll move on to prototyping. This is where we create a physical version of the design using 3D printing technology. The prototype will allow you to see and touch the design, and it will also help us test the functionality and durability of the product.
At this stage, we may need to make adjustments to the design based on the prototype testing. We’ll work with you to ensure any changes meet your needs and are within your budget and timeline.
-
Finalization
Once the prototype has been tested and any necessary adjustments have been made, we’ll move on to finalization. This is where we finalize the design and prepare it for manufacturing. We’ll create a final 3D model that is optimized for manufacturing and meets all of your requirements.
At this stage, we’ll also provide you with a quote for the manufacturing of your product. We’ll work with you to ensure the final product meets your needs and is delivered on time and within budget.

We have a thorough and detailed 3D design process that ensures your ideas are transformed into high-quality, functional products. From conceptualization to finalization, we work with you every step of the way to ensure your product meets your needs and exceeds your expectations. Frequently asked
Can Additive Inn do the 3D design too?
Yes — we have in-house mechanical and product designers. Bring a sketch, a reference photo, or just a description of what you need, and we'll quote design + print as one job. Our process: brief → 2–3 concept sketches → chosen direction goes to CAD → review render → revise → print. Full design jobs typically run 1–3 weeks.
How much does 3D design service cost?
Design rates run S$80–150/hour depending on complexity. Simple single-part design (a custom holder, a model from a photo) is usually 2–6 hours. Complex multi-part products with mechanical movement run 20–60 hours. We quote a fixed price per project based on the brief, not by the hour.
Do I own the CAD files after the design job?
Yes. After full payment, you own the 3D files (STL, STEP, source CAD format) and can take them anywhere. We keep a copy for 12 months in case you need a reprint, then archive. We don't reuse client designs for other jobs without explicit permission.
