Detail you can read up close

The police crest and each unit's badge stand out in colour on the silver helm.

  2. How we look after you

Two rounds of design, agreed before we printed

We sent 3D renders with every part labelled, then moved to silver and engraved logos in the second round.

A trophy with a moving part

Magnets hold the helm on the anchor, so it comes away and sits back in place.

The brief

Step 1 of 5

At Additive Inn, our 3D printing studio in Singapore, we made a 650 mm anchor and helm trophy for the Police Coast Guard. It had to carry the police crest, the badges of their units and the names of past commanders.

Design and prototyping

Step 2 of 5

We modelled the trophy in 3D: a ship's helm over an anchor, 650 mm tall and 455 mm across, on a wooden base, with two 19 mm metal rods inside for support. The first design was dark metal, with logos UV printed on acrylic pieces.

Production

Step 3 of 5

We 3D printed the anchor and the helm as separate parts, with the police crest and unit badges modelled into the helm, then made the wooden base and the clear acrylic name plaques.

Build and assembly

Step 4 of 5

We finished the anchor and helm in metallic silver, with the crest and badges in colour. The names were UV printed on clear acrylic plaques, screwed to the stained wooden base beside the PCG shield. Magnets hold the helm on the anchor.

The final build

Step 5 of 5

The finished trophy: a silver helm over the anchor, the police crest in colour at its centre, unit badges round the rim and past commanders' names on the base.
